Cadets mingle with coastguard on Bermuda visit
A visiting class of cadets was able to meet with and learn about the Royal Bermuda Regiment Coastguard during a recent cruise to Bermuda.
According to US website The Baynet, members of the Maryland-based Northern High School National Navy Defence Cadet Corps travelled to the island on the Liberty of the Seas where they were able to take part in on-board ceremonies and connect with RBR officials.
Sergeant Major Straté Flessas, retired, said: “Though on a cruise ship meant for a vacation, the cadets got to feel as though they were doing something more navy-centric rather than a classroom discussion or project.”
The NNDCC programme is aimed at instilling discipline, a sense of service and community support to enrolled students.
During their time on the island, the cadets were able to meet with and listen to members of the coastguard to talk about their operations and how they collaborate with the US.
Captain Jason Harrell, the second in command of the RBR Coastguard, said: “The cadets and their staff were very attentive. It was a pleasure to host them”
