Prison escort interrupted by incident with inmate
A review has been ordered into an incident that occurred this afternoon during the transportation of an inmate.
A government spokesman said that at about 1.24pm, a Department of Corrections escort was taking an inmate from the courts to the co-ed facility when the inmate “became disruptive and attempted to manipulate their restraints”.
“The escort stopped to ensure the safety of the offender and staff, and additional officers were called to assist,” the spokesman added.
“The situation was contained, and the inmate returned to the co-ed facility without further incident.
“There is no ongoing risk to the public.”
Kim Wilkinson, the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, said she had requested the Department of Corrections to conduct a review of the incident, thanking the officers involved for their quick response.
