The Gina Spence Programme said those in mourning have a shoulder they can rest their heads on as the island today marks National Grief Awareness Day.

In a statement, the charity said it was dedicated to creating a Bermuda where no one has to face grief alone, and every individual has access to the resources and support they need to heal and thrive.

While the charity hosts Bermuda Grief and Loss Awareness Day in March, Gina Spence, the charity’s founder, said: “National Grief Awareness Day is more than a date on the calendar.

“At the Gina Spence Programme, we have walked beside children, seniors, families and even those incarcerated. Our commitment remains the same — that every broken heart deserves a safe place to heal.”

Mykiee Jones, the charity’s executive director, added: “We honour the courage it takes to face grief.

“By standing together in Bermuda and beyond, we show that compassion, healing and hope are stronger than sorrow.”

The charity noted it’s grief-centred programmes such as the Healing Hearts Programme, offering affordable grief counselling, the GriefConnect Programme, which provides education and awareness about grief, and the Champions Programme providing care for children who have lost a parent to gun and gang violence.

Members of the public who need support are invited to call 296-0016 or visit www.gspcharity.com, while those who wish to support the charity’s efforts can make a donation to its hardship fund.
