The Bermuda Musical and Dramatic Society is climbing up the beanstalk in this year’s Christmas pantomime and organisers are looking for young actors to join the fun.

Jack and de Beaniestawk, a Bermudian take on the timeless children’s folk tale Jack and the Beanstalk, will be on stage at Earl Cameron Theatre from December 2 to 13, with auditions for the youth ensemble planned for September 6.

Laura Bardgett, the show’s director, urged interested children between the ages of 8 and 15 to come out and audition regardless of their level of experience on stage.

“It'll be good fun,” she said. “The kids don't need to prepare anything, we'll ask them to sing and dance in groups to see how they get on.

“There is also still one cast role to fill for an older kid, aged 14 to 15.”

Youth auditions will be held at Daylesford Theatre, located at the corner of Dundonald Street and Washington Street, between 10am and 4pm. Those interested in taking part are urged to attend early.

Children auditioning must be at least 8 years old as of October 1, 2025, and must be generally available throughout the rehearsal period, which begins on October 13. They must be available from November 17 until December 13.

A spokeswoman for the production team said that adult roles were cast earlier in the year with a “diverse and strong” team of actors including both veteran performers and new faces.

“We're also looking for volunteers to help with set building. You can contact the producers at bmdspanto@gmail.com if you’re interested in that or volunteering in any other capacity,” she added.

“BMDS is keeping ticket prices low at $40 per person so that families can all come out and enjoy this wonderful Christmas tradition together.”

Tickets will go on sale a little later in the year on ptix.bm
