Return time extended for BPS vetting applications
Processing time for vetting applications made to the Bermuda Police Service has increased from 15 business days to 28 calendar days, the organisation announced today.
The BPS said that the shift reflected the “operational complexities” faced by the vetting unit and aligned with international standards.
“It supports thorough, accurate and consistent outcomes while maintaining our commitment to fairness, integrity and timely service,” the BPS added.
Applicants were advised that the target for results of vetting applications is 28 calendar days from the date an application is submitted.
The BPS said: “If a vetting file is completed before the 28 days, it will be issued immediately — files will not be held until the end of the period.”
It added: “Some applications may require more time where additional checks are needed, for example, when information is unclear or third party input is required.
“In such cases, processing may extend beyond 28 days.”
The BPS said that a formal review will be carried out in three months to assess the impact of the change, identify any challenges, and measure improvements in the quality, accuracy and consistency of vetting outcomes.
