Guidance issued for charities and non-profit organisations

The Registry General, which holds sole responsibility for determining whether charities meet their necessary qualifications, has highlighted its online directory for agencies to fulfil obligations.

Guidance documents available through the government website include pointers on anti-money-laundering and antiterrorist financing regulations, as well as the definition of public benefit and the implementation of a vulnerable persons policy.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Youth, Social Development and Seniors said that guidance was being updated, adding that charities would be notified once the rules were published.

The Registry General’s Office oversees the approval and monitoring of charities and determines whether an entity is a charity.

The office can be reached by phone on 444-1953 or by e-mail at apennyman@gov.bm.
