Crisson Jewellers to reopen after storm break-in
A Hamilton store will reopen today after it was targeted by burglars during Hurricane Imelda.
Crisson Jewellers announced that it would be back in business at its Queen Street location after a temporary closure sparked by burglary and vandalism.
Peter Crisson, company director, said: “For over 100 years, Crisson has weathered many storms — both literal and figurative.
“This incident was a setback but we are grateful for the resilience and dedication of our team, who worked tirelessly to ensure we could reopen quickly and safely. We appreciate the patience and support of our customers during this difficult time.”
The store was one of three businesses raided last week as Hurricane Imelda passed over the island.
Police said that the burglary likely took place between 1.55am and 3.30am on October 2. The suspects escaped with “a large quantity of jewellery and watches from the store’s display cases, as well as a quantity of cash”.
After the burglary, the company urged anyone with information about the burglary to come forward and speak with the Bermuda Police Service.
Mr Crisson said: “Bermuda has always been strongest when we stand together.
“We ask our community to stand with us, not just as customers, but as partners in ensuring our island remains a safe place to do business.
“Together, we can send a clear message that such actions will not be tolerated.”
Police are also investigating break-ins at both the Gem Cellar on Reid Street and the Shelly Bay MarketPlace, which occurred while the businesses were closed for Hurricane Imelda.
The Gem Cellar burglary is understood to have taken place between 3pm on October 1 and 3pm on October 2.
Jewellery of unknown value was removed by a suspect caught on camera, described as 5ft 9in tall, wearing a blue sweater and dark-coloured pants along with a helmet and a pair of gloves.
Meanwhile, the Shelly Bay MarketPlace reported a burglary at 8.30am on October 2.
Suspects, wearing black helmets and dark-coloured jackets and gloves, broke into an office and stole cash and other valuables. They were caught on the store’s CCTV.
The criminal investigations unit asked anyone who might have information to contact Detective Inspector Tiffany Caisey at 717-2294 or via e-mail at tcaisey@bps.bm.
