Governor’s temporary home up for sale
The temporary home of the Governor during the refurbishment of the 19th-century Government House building has gone on the market.
The asking price for the six-bedroom home, Los Zorros, on Inglewood Lane in Paget, is $4.75 million according to an advertisement by Rego Sotheby’s international realty.
It comes with a one-bedroom apartment and two-bedroom cottage on an acre of gardens overlooking the South Shore.
The realtors, who posted the sale notice online on Wednesday, confirmed that “the time is nearing” for Andrew Murdoch, the Governor, to move out.
Government House on Langton Hill in Pembroke was declared unsafe and formally vacated in February 2024 by Mr Murdoch’s predecessor, Rena Lalgie, who went into temporary accommodation in 2023.
The building, completed in 1892 and previously renovated in 1999, had suffered extensive water damage because of leaking roofs and faulty windows.
Jaché Adams, the Minister of Public Works and Environment, told the House of Assembly in July that renovations were on schedule for its roof, ceilings, internal painting, electrical systems, flooring and kitchen.
A ministry spokesman told The Royal Gazette that same month: “Since December 1, 2023, a total of $524,000 has been spent on rent and associated charges for housing of the Governor and staff.”
A further $312,000 was said to be budgeted to cover rent and associated expenses for the remainder of the Governor’s stay at Los Zorros for the 2025-26 financial year.
Los Zorros was billed as a “quiet enclave” available to “Bermudians, belongers, PRC and international purchasers”.
