Public invited to offer feedback on new rental rules

An online information session next week will give the community a chance to comment on the draft Landlord and Tenant Bill 2025, aimed at replacing old legislation with “a single modern framework”.

A spokeswoman said the Ministry of Home Affairs would hold the virtual forum on October 29 at 6.30pm as part of its Affordable Bermuda Agenda.

The Bill will cover matters including “standardised leases, security deposit reform, clearer rights and faster dispute resolution”.

The Bill aims to repeal the Landlord and Tenant Act 1974 and Rent Increases (Domestic Premises) Control Act 1978.

The spokeswoman advised participants to access the virtual link on the day of the forum. Feedback will be reviewed with final recommendations to go before legislators.

The meeting will also be shown live on the Government’s Facebook page, YouTube channel and CITV.

Questions can be sent in advance to mhahq@gov.bm, and views can be shared online at www.forum.gov.bm. The public can also visit costofliving.gov.bm to learn more about the issue.

Consultation on the draft legislation closes on October 31.
