Residents of St George’s will get a crash course on how to plan for development within the Olde Towne.

The Department of Planning today announced an information session on how to develop within the world heritage site.

A spokeswoman for the planning department said: “The Town of St George is cherished for its historic and cultural significance, and careful planning is essential to preserve its unique character.

“This session offers the public an opportunity to learn more about the planning process and how development proposals within the town are reviewed and managed.”

The information session will follow World Town Planning Day this Saturday.

The department will deliver a presentation on November 12 at 6pm at Penno’s Wharf, and follow it with a question and answer period.

The presentation will give guidance on key planning considerations, such as when planning permission is needed, what information must be submitted, who is consulted and why and how heritage applications are assessed.

The Department of Planning particularly encouraged St George’s residents and those who owned businesses or property in the parish to join.

Those interested in joining can register online.
