Call for more volunteers for further Jamaica relief
More volunteers are needed to ready the next shipment of aid after an outpouring of donations for communities in Jamaica devastated by Hurricane Melissa, organisers have said.
The Jamaican Association of Bermuda issued the call after the successful departure on Tuesday of a flight bringing humanitarian relief to the Caribbean island.
The ongoing One Love Jamaica Relief Effort has mustered a “significant volume of relief items” that remain at the Hamilton Seventh-day Adventist Church on King Street.
Supplies must be organised, packed and placed on pallets for the next delivery.
The association said the organising team had called for “male volunteers who are able to help with lifting, moving and packing items” to pitch in at the church next Monday from 9am to 6pm.
A spokeswoman thanked the community for a “remarkable” outpouring of support, adding that “continued participation is essential as the mission enters its next stage”.
She added: “Every act of service, no matter how small, helps to uplift those in need and keeps the spirit of One Love alive.”
To support, call 525-1962 for details.
The relief effort marks a partnership between local organisations and the community united in “compassion and service” with friends of Jamaica.
