Diverse group of speakers lined up for Pecha Kucha
Artificial intelligence, forest schools, creative exploration and the importance of inclusion are some of the topics to be presented at the 36th annual Pecha Kucha.
The popular storytelling event is scheduled to take place at the Bermuda Society of Arts on Friday evening.
Organisers invited the public to enjoy an evening of “creativity, reflection and connection”.
A spokesman said the presentation format of 20 slides, each shown for 20 seconds, delivers “a fast-paced, engaging storytelling experience that has become one of Bermuda’s favourite community events”.
He added: “This edition features a diverse group of presenters sharing unique perspectives across technology, art, inclusion and the human experience.”
Among the speakers is Lisa Lister Reed, who was named Woman of the Year by the International Women’s Day Committee, in partnership with the Women’s Resource Centre this year. She will speak on why inclusion demands action and not sympathy.
Leire Hernandez Ostolaza will explore how AI interprets human emotions, and what happens when machines begin to mirror our inner worlds.
Stephan Johnstone will talk about his short film collaboration, Thoughts Become Things, which uses Bermuda's Gombey culture as a central symbol, while Lee-Anne Cox, known as The Natural Educator, will take listeners on a journey into her “living classroom of the natural world”.
A speaker listed as Nameless I Am will deliver a poetic reflection on how pain can help to nurture love and resilience.
Michael Watson will speak on how culture, bias and belief shape who we are.
In addition to the in-person event, a livestream will be provided courtesy of Spanish Town Entertainment and J Roc Communications via YouTube at www.youtube.com/@jrocbda.
