Fresh fun added to holiday favourite

The City of Hamilton is bringing new fun to a Christmas tradition this year.

A spokeswoman said the Rockin’ Around the City Tree event on November 28 will feature a new tree and, for the first time, fireworks.

Attendees at the free event on City Hall lawn will be treated to complimentary hot chocolate and performances from acts including Bermy Bouncers and DanceSations before Santa Claus makes his first official appearance of the year.

The new tree, designed in collaboration with Gibbons Company, will feature Bermuda-themed decorations.

The spokeswoman said: “Our partner, Tomorrow’s Voices, will be on hand selling light-up toys to raise funds for the autism charity.

“Ahmani’s Cookies will be on-site with sweet treats for sale and guests can capture all the magic with a professional photo with Santa.

“Each photo comes with a complimentary print in a holiday magnet frame, with a removable calendar, a keepsake to treasure all season long.”

People are encouraged to dine and shop in the city before the festivities from 6.30pm to 9pm.

Lorna Hayward, Hamilton’s senior events co-ordinator, said: “The lighting of the City Hall Christmas Tree has become a cherished holiday tradition.

“It’s a joyful evening that brings families and friends together to celebrate the season, and this year’s fireworks will make it more spectacular than ever.”

Stacy Hill, funding and development Officer at Tomorrow’s Voices, said: “Partnering with the City for this special event gives us a chance to not only raise funds but to raise awareness about autism while celebrating the warmth and generosity of the season.

“We’re so grateful to be part of such a beloved community tradition.”
