A fatal crash last month by the side of a highway in Durham, North Carolina, in which 24-year-old Brijette Basden was killed will not result in criminal charges against the other driver, the city’s police department has stated.

Ms Basden’s sister, Asrael Basden, was also injured in the collision at 4.45am on October 19.

Durham police told The Royal Gazette: “Based on the investigator’s findings, there was not probable cause to charge the driver with a crime.”

The area broadcaster ABC11 reported that Ms Basden’s sister continued to recover from her injuries.

The two had been driving on the I40 westbound highway when Ms Basden pulled over to switch driving duties with her sister.

Ms Basden, a Bermuda School Sports Federation track-and-field champion, was a popular kindergarten teacher in the city of Wilson, North Carolina.
