Wear odd socks to support positive change against bullying
Schools, businesses and other members of the community were invited to take part in Odd Socks Day on Friday as part of Anti-Bullying Week.
The Department of Health made the call and said that the observance will run from November 10 to 14 under the theme “The Power of Good”.
It added: “Odd Socks Day is a symbolic event that carries a powerful message — our differences make us unique.
“By wearing odd socks, participants celebrate individuality and inclusion while standing together against bullying.”
Kim Wilson, the Minister of Health, said: “Building a healthy community starts with how we treat one another.
“When we choose kindness, empathy and respect in our daily lives, we create an environment where everyone — especially our children — can grow, learn and thrive free from fear or exclusion.”
The 2025 theme encourages people to use their influence for positive change.
Participants were urged by the Department of Health “to go beyond awareness by reflecting on how their own behaviour contributes to a culture of kindness and accountability”.
Throughout the week, schools and other organisations were encouraged to identify ways individuals can each help to reduce bullying, speak up when they see exclusion or unkindness, and reflect on how words and actions affect others.
The health department said: “By equipping young people and adults alike with the tools to understand themselves and others, Bermuda can continue to cultivate safe, supportive spaces where everyone feels valued, confident and respected.”
To take part in Odd Socks Day, wear odd socks on Friday and share a photograph on social media with the hashtags #OddSocksDay and #ThePowerOfGood, tagging @DepartmentofHealthBermuda.
The Department of Health encouraged people to carry the spirit of Anti-Bullying Week throughout the year by promoting kindness, compassion and mental wellness in all areas of community life.
