Gender Affairs Council forum set for November 24

A public forum with the Gender Affairs Council to introduce the body’s mandate and engage the community will take place on November 24.

The community can engage in open discussion about gender equity in Bermuda at the Bermuda Economic Development Corporation training room in Hamilton from 5.30pm to 7pm.

The public can explore issues including gender-based violence, sexual harassment and reproductive rights, mental health and pay equity.

Tinée Furbert, the Minister of Youth, Social Development and Seniors, said: “The establishment of the Gender Affairs Council marks an important step in our commitment to building a fairer and more inclusive Bermuda.

“This event is an opportunity for the community to learn more about the council’s work and, more importantly, to share their own experiences and perspectives.”

The GAC’s mandate is to monitor and address issues affecting women and girls, men and boys as well as LGBTQI+, gender-diverse and non-binary individuals, with a focus on domestic violence, pay disparity and workplace discrimination.

Its work is guided by legislation and policy, research and evaluation and community engagement and education.

Residents can register by visiting bit.ly/gacregistration andshare perspectives through the community survey online.
