‘Disciplinarian’ celebrates 100th birthday
Tributes were paid to a St David’s resident who is marking her 100th birthday this week.
Ianthia Wilson smiled as wellwishers greeted her at the Grotto Bay Beach Resort & Spa to kick-start celebrations marking the key milestone.
She also received birthday greetings from King Charles III in an official letter.
Ms Wilson, who lived most of her life in Pembroke, said “I feel fine” when asked how she felt about her birthday.
Ivan Wilson, one of her seven children, said the family felt honoured to celebrate his mother’s birthday.
He said: “I thought it was very important to honour her because not many people live to see 100.
“Her and my father got divorced when I was in my teens so she raised all seven of us by herself.
“It was hard back then but she worked in the stores and she was a very hard worker. I got my work ethics from her.”
Mr Wilson, 75, said his mother is a disciplinarian who tried her best to take care of her children’s needs.
“I am a man of good character because of her,” he said, adding: “I miss her a lot, I live in Florida and I come once each year, but I always miss her.”
Mr Wilson said his mother had always been a fan of game shows and she also enjoys listening to gospel music.
She is a fan of baseball and she told The Royal Gazette that her favourite team is the Boston Red Sox.
“The main thing is that she worked very hard to raise us and back then, it was tough because we grew up really poor,” he added.
At yesterday’s event, Mr Wilson shared a greeting card which his mother received for her 100th birthday from King Charles III.
The card read: “We are so pleased to know that you are celebrating your one hundredth birthday on 25th November, 2025.
“This brings our warmest congratulations and heartfelt good wishes on such a special occasion.”
