Ministers meet British experts for trade talks
Representatives from the British Government’s export credit agency visited Bermuda last week to discuss potential areas of collaboration.
A Government House spokeswoman said UK Export Finance has been working with the Government of Bermuda and the Foreign Office to identify “project opportunities” in Bermuda.
The spokeswoman added that UKEF has supported projects in more than 200 countries including renewable energy developments and transportation projects.
Between November 17 and 19, UKEF representatives met Zane DeSilva, the Acting Premier and Minister of Housing and Municipalities, Alexa Lightbourne, the Minister of Home Affairs, Jaché Adams, the Minister of Public Works and Environment, Jason Hayward, the Minister of Economy and Labour, and Kim Wilkerson, the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice.
Andrew Murdoch, the Governor, said he was delighted to welcome experts from UKEF to the island.
He added: “The visit reinforces the shared commitment to fostering sustainable economic growth and unlocking new opportunities for bilateral trade and investment.
“I look forward to building on this momentum and deepening our economic ties to the benefit of businesses and communities on both sides of the Atlantic.”
A government spokeswoman added that the visit underscored commitments made in the 2024 Joint Ministerial Council.
She said: “Through the efforts of the London Office, the Government has strengthened collaboration with the UK Government via UKEF and with the support of the FCDO and Government House, creating a strategic mechanism to explore innovative frameworks that advance economic co-operation between Bermuda and the UK as trusted partners.”
