Entertainer memorialised through Christmas piece
A new Christmas ornament pays tribute to a legendary musical entertainer.
Jewellers at Walker Christopher spent one year designing the piece, modelled after the late pianist Tony Bari.
Mr Bari performed in almost every major hotel in Bermuda from 1984 until his death last year and was a radio host on 1450 AM Gold.
Marlene Bicchieri, Mr Bari’s widow, commissioned the ornament as a way to remember her husband and give back to charity.
She said: “He played with his trio in Agape House and Friends of Hospice on the first Sunday in December for almost 20 years. December 2023 was his last event.
“Christmas is so special to us and him, he would come home with tears in his eyes thinking about the families and residents at Agape House.”
Agape House is a palliative care facility and Friends of Hospice is the charity supporting it.
Ms Bicchieri said she loves the ornament and will donate $25 to Friends of Hospice for each one that is sold.
She said: “We’ve been working on it for more than a year. It captured his pointed chin, smile, larger-than-life personality and broad shoulders.”
Ms Bicchieri hopes people remember her husband’s passion for “entertaining and giving people a wonderful experience through music”.
Jeweller Brittany Archer worked on the ornament and recalls Mr Bari performing at Walker Christopher for Christmas and special occasions.
Ms Archer said: “The ornament was a group effort by all. They don’t normally do people so it’s a little more challenging than a flower or animal.”
The piece is not the only meaningful tribute to Mr Bari. Fellow musician Wendell “Shine” Hayward established a scholarship in his honour for students at the Bermuda School of Music.
The ornament is on sale for $175 at Walker Christopher as well as the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute’s Harbourside Market which takes place on December 6.
