The Department of Energy has launched a search for a partner to help it reform the island’s broadcasting regulations.

A recent request for proposal, published on the Government’s procurement website, called for submissions on the creation of a Broadcast Reform consultation document.

The notice said: “In 2013, Squire and Patton produced the initial iteration of the Broadcasting Reform document.

“Building upon this foundation, the Department of Energy subsequently developed a second iteration, which expanded the framework to include provisions for political broadcasting and provided greater clarity on the principle of convergence, first introduced in the original draft.

“The Department of Energy now seeks to engage a qualified consultant to review the second iteration in conjunction with relevant broadcasting and media policy documents from comparable jurisdictions.

“The objective of this engagement is to obtain expert analysis and recommendations to support the finalisation of Bermuda's Broadcasting Reform Policy, ensuring that it reflects international best practices while remaining responsive to Bermuda's unique regulatory and cultural context.”

The notice added that those making submissions should clearly outline their experience and expertise in broadcast policy reform, comparative regulatory analysis and stakeholder consultation.

The deadline for submissions was listed at 5pm on December 9.
