Veteran Bermudian artist to be showcased in modern art show
A Bermudian artist will be featured in an international show this week specialising in modern art.
Black Pony Gallery will highlight artwork from Charles Zuill, from Bermuda, and Jason Bennett, from the Bahamas, during the Scope Art Show.
The show will be an event within Miami Art Week, which will run from tomorrow to Sunday.
“We are honoured to be included in Scope’s 24th edition,” said Lisa Howie, the founding director of Black Pony Gallery.
“Although this is the second time that Black Pony Gallery will be presenting Atlantic Caribbean artists in the Miami Art Week, this is our first time to have our own gallery booth at Scope.”
The theme of this year’s Scope show is “Be Here Now”, which focuses on “presence, attention and dialogue”.
Both artists explored abstract expression that challenged the idea of the Caribbean as only being a lush paradise.
Mr Zuill, who turns 90 next month, submitted several silverpoint drawings made by dragging a silver wire across treated paper.
Mr Bennett’s work explored themes of modern society through a collage of acrylic, graphite, spray paint, pastel and ink layered and sanded down.
The Scope Art Show is a pioneering event in contemporary art, having showcased art from around the world for more than 20 years.
