BUEI Wave for Change campaign reaches final month
An ocean advocacy charity is in the final month of its key annual fundraiser and is appealing to the community to jump on board and support.
The Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute’s Wave for Change campaign aims to raise $50,000 and provides different options to help including making a donation, becoming a member, supporting its raffle and volunteering.
Traci Burgess, the organisation’s chief executive, said: “We are appealing to the community to dive in with BUEI, make a splash and make a difference.
“Every dollar donated supports our impactful education programmes, community outreach and engagement activities.
“It also helps to support the maintenance of our Ocean Discovery Centre, which welcomes tens of thousands of visitors, both local and from overseas, on an annual basis.
“Let’s get involved and ride the wave and together.
“A healthy ocean supports a healthy planet, which is good for all of us.”
The BUEI runs school curriculum enrichment classes and laboratories about the marine environment as well as out-of-school camps.
It has extensive ocean-related exhibits and often hosts environmental films and presentations in its Tradewinds Auditorium.
Membership helps the BUEI to expand its community connections and offer insights into Bermuda’s history, marine sciences and maritime studies.
The institute is also the national operator for Eco-Schools Bermuda, which is part of a global recognition and award programme for the British-based Foundation for Environmental Education.
Prizes in the BUEI raffle include a Benelli scooter, a two-night stay at The Reefs Resort and Hotel, and two round-trip tickets with BermudAir.
Anyone interested in volunteering can offer services related to research, donor engagements, marketing, retail sales and education.
Ms Burgess added: “BUEI’s vision is for the ocean around Bermuda to be widely understood, appreciated and protected.
“Our vision is supported by three main pillars of our mission — education, experiences and exploration.”
