A group of St George’s businesses have set out to reach customers across the island as the Christmas shopping season gears up for its last two weeks.

Long Story Short, Lacquered Lounge, Salt Spray Soap and Confections are offering a selection of their products for sale at Lookie Lookie, located in the Washington Mall in Hamilton.

Meanwhile, a raft of St George’s businesses located on the western side of Water Street will offer Sunday shopping in the lead-up to the holidays.

Kristin White, the owner of Long Story Short gift shop and tour company, said that she had pitched the concept of a Hamilton pop-up to St George’s entrepreneurs.

Ms White said: “We have so many cool products. Unique handmade items, speciality curated gifts, gift certificates for tours, art workshops, spa services, and more, but many people are just unaware of what we have to offer in the East End.

“I wanted us to showcase our businesses during a time when Bermuda’s residents are shopping, so they could buy our gifts and goodies and be reminded to come shop with us in our beautiful spaces in St George’s.”

Ms White said she spoke with Kimwana Eve, the owner of Lookie Lookie, which hosts spaces for more than 45 local businesses to sell their wares in the Washington Mall, who fully supported the idea.

Ms Eve said: “These St George’s shops are bringing some new and interesting products to Lookie Lookie, so I’m very pleased to provide this opportunity.

“My goal is to create a platform for Bermuda’s entrepreneurs and, although these four businesses have their own shops, Lookie Lookie is right in the heart of the City, so this will introduce them to a new audience.”

The pop-up, which is expected to run until the end of January, features a small sample of what the shops have to offer at their St George’s location including Long Story Short’s new candle line, skincare and pedicure gift sets from Lacquered Lounge, Salt Spray Soap’s Beach Bliss Bundle of products and Confections sugar cookies.

Ms White said that Long Story Short is also co-hosting “A Winter Wander”, a Christmas shopping event on Sundays in St George’s on Water Street West.

Ms White said: “Here on Water Street West there’s Long Story Short, Frequency Café and Hub, Lacquered Lounge, Dragon’s Lair Art Gallery, Needles Etc, The Things We Love, Wharf Restaurant and High Tide Tattoo.

“We decided to come together to host a Sunday event, to encourage people to come down to do their Christmas shopping and hang out with their friends and family this holiday season.”

The Sunday shopping event will take place between noon and 4pm on December 14 and 21 with music by DJ Purple Ferdinand, a pop-up wine bar at Long Story Short organised in collaboration with Gosling’s, and an appearance by Santa.

Astoria Smith, the owner of Lacquered Lounge, said. “People can shop in St George's and not feel harried or rushed.

“There's plenty of free parking, lots of cool shops, handmade items, great spots to eat. It's truly the best.”
