Consignment shop comes top in Christmas window contest
Hamilton shop Orange Bay Company showed that it has the festive spirit after winning the 2025 City Christmas Window Decorating Contest.
Charles Gosling, the Mayor of Hamilton, said the business’s Victoria Street display beat out 15 other businesses to win the judge’s prize, along with a $1,000 Belco gift certificate and a donation to its charity of choice.
Mr Gosling said: “Their display stood out for its warm, familial scene, beautifully capturing the spirit of Christmas through thoughtful vintage touches and a strong sense of togetherness.”
Delight Morris, Orange Bay founder and “chief treasure hunter”, praised her staff for their dedication.
She said: “They are really responsible for the display. They worked long nights, a lot of hours to make this come alive. When we saw the finished product, we were really proud of them.”
Ms Morris added that in addition to giving the charitable donation to Restart, the team had decided they wanted to donate the Belco gift card prize to the charity Home.
She thanked the Corporation of Hamilton for hosting the contest, adding: “Sustainability wins. Remember us at Christmas.”
Mr Gosling said that the Island Shop received the People’s Choice Award in the competition, which was determined by public voting, and was named the first runner-up by the panel of judges.
Sleeper’s Paradise was named second runner-up by the judges, while Demco and Spexx Eyecare were voted the first and second runners-up respectively in the People’s Choice category.
Mr Gosling thanked all of the businesses that took part in the contest, adding: “Your efforts transformed Hamilton into a festive, welcoming space and showcased the creativity and pride that define our business community.
“I would also like to extend sincere thanks to our judging panel for lending their expertise and thoughtful consideration to this year’s competition.
“I encourage residents and visitors alike to continue enjoying these beautiful displays, which will remain in place throughout the holiday season. Take a stroll, shop local and experience the stories unfolding in each window.”
