The philanthropic Meritus Foundation has done it again by donating a total of $17,000 to five worthy causes in Bermuda.

A statement said the charities Support Public Schools, Meals on Wheels, Saving Children and Revealing Secrets and Keep Bermuda Beautiful each received $4,000 from the foundation.

Support Public Schools, chosen by Meritus chief executive, chairwoman and family counsel Michelle Wolfe, will put funds towards the Vibe Tribe Club programme at CedarBridge Academy.

Meals on Wheels, selected by Barb Patterson, Meritus senior client director, delivers fresh and healthy food to seniors and other individuals in need throughout the community.

Scars, chosen by Meritus fiduciary director Dorothy Gazzard, offers training and resources to reduce the risk of child sexual abuse and support affected families.

Allan Wiekenkamp, Meritus financial officer, selected KBB, which aims to reduce waste and eliminate litter island-wide.

The statement added: “In addition to these four key donations, the Meritus Foundation is contributing $1,000 to Family Centre’s ‘Adopt-a-Family’ programme to ensure local families experience support and care during the holiday season.”

Meritus staff and their families made holiday cards for Adopt-A-Family recipients and seniors in nursing homes during an open house on Friday.

A spokeswoman for the Foundation said: “Giving back to the community is at the heart of what we do at Meritus.

“We are proud to support organisations that uplift individuals and strengthen the social fabric of our community.”
