A charity dedicated to tackling abuse has been given a $5,000 boost thanks to members of Court House Squash and Wellness.

The gym this month donated proceeds from its annual Christmas party to Scars in recognition of the charity’s contributions to protecting Bermuda’s children and empowering the victims of sexual abuse.

Bee Thurlow, member services and operations manager at Court House, said: “Last year, when we selected Dementia Bermuda, we saw Scars doing a lot of really great work in the community and we thought it would be a great charity to support.

“We have watched them continue to show how impactful and significant their work is this year.”

Ms Thurlow said Court House was eager to give back to the community, adding that wellness was as much about emotional health and stability as physical health.

She said: “Unfortunately, a lot of kids don’t have that stability, so it’s important for us that we were able to raise enough that we can give it to a foundation that helps provide that stability in the community.”

Brendalee White, operations manager at Scars, said the that donations help support its mission to advocate for child safety and deliver prevention education and awareness communication.

She said: “These initiatives are critical to ensuring that children are protected from sexual harm.

“This important work is only possible because of generous donors like Court House Squash and Wellness. Their support enables us to continue providing education and resources that help prevent child sexual abuse.

“We remain unwavering in our commitment — because every child deserves to be safe, protected and free from harm.”

In past years, Court House has donated to charities including the Bermuda Red Cross, the Bermuda Diabetes Association, Friends of Hospice, Beyond Rugby, Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Bermuda and Pals Bermuda.
