Police have opened a book of condolence to honour the late retired Commissioner of Police George Jackson.

Members of the public were invited to visit Hamilton Police Station before next Wednesday and sign the book.

Born in St Vincent & the Grenadines, Mr Jackson came to Bermuda in 1973 as a constable at 20 years old.

He spent most of his career in the criminal investigations and narcotics departments before being seconded to London’s Metropolitan Police in 1997.

Mr Jackson became second-in-command at the BPS in 2000 and was named Commissioner of Police in 2005 at the age of 53.

He held the post until his retirement in 2009 and was succeeded by Michael DeSilva.

The condolence book is in the Commissioner Frederick CB “Penny” Bean Community Meeting and Media Room until January 21.
