Gas-O-Rama returns next month to support charity
The Hamilton Lions Club and Terceira’s Service Station are joining forces again next month for the 57th Annual Gas-O-Rama fundraiser.
The event, to be held on February 7, will raise funds for Compassionate Care Partners, the charity formerly known as Friends of Hospice, to support their work building a new care centre.
Velda Franco, president of the Hamilton Lions Club, said the annual event — which emerged from a 1969 bet between Malcolm Terceira and Edward “Teddy” Chapman — showed the club’s commitment to service.
She said: “We serve wherever there is a need, fuelled by the community’s spirit at our annual Gas-O-Rama, ensuring that every helping hand today builds a more compassionate tomorrow.”
It has raised more than $1 million for local charities since its inception.
The 2026 Gas-O-Rama is scheduled to start at 8am and end at 6pm with a raffle drawing, and organisers urging customers to fill their tanks for charity.
It includes a carwash, overseen by the Bermuda Sloop Foundation, plus live entertainment, food and games.
Michael Terceira, part of the family’s third generation of management along with his brother Teddy, said they were honoured to continue the tradition.
“They tell me that my grandfather, Malcolm, tried to bet his horse on a poker hand in the late ‘60s but Mr Chapman turned it down and asked for the gas station for a day instead,” he said.
“Fifty-seven years later, we still give that day to the Lions Club and it continues to deliver aid to deserving charities year after year.”
