Senior leaders take training in handling emergencies
Leaders from several organisations have this week learnt how to better respond and collaborate during emergencies.
A government spokesman said that Government House and the Ministry of National Security helped to facilitate the Multi-agency Gold Incident Command training this week.
The sessions, delivered by representatives from the British-based College of Policing, was tailored for Overseas Territories to ensure senior leaders are “equipped to establish clear command structures, shared situational awareness and co-ordinated responses during times of crisis”.
Participants, including representatives from the Bermuda Police Service, the customs department, Skyport and the Royal Bermuda Regiment, examined realistic incidents they could face in Bermuda.
Andrew Murdoch, the Governor, and Michael Weeks, the Minister of National Security, opened the event by discussing the importance of collaboration in safeguarding Bermuda.
The spokesman said Mr Weeks “highlighted that the training is designed to improve leadership at the highest level, with a focus on shared responsibility, structured decision-making and collective accountability”.
He added: “Mr Weeks also pointed to Bermuda’s real-world experience in managing incidents that demand strategic co-ordination, including severe weather events, major maritime incidents, large-scale fires, serious road incidents and complex security situations.”
