The Government is looking to invest in new playground and outdoor exercise equipment for four public parks.

A request for proposals, published online, sought proposals to install playground apparatus at Parsons Road Park, Pembroke and Duck’s Puddle Park in Hamilton Parish.

New outdoor exercise equipment is proposed to be added to Shelly Bay Park in Hamilton Parish and Mullet Bay Park in St George’s.

The notice said: “The mission of this playground and outdoor exercise area acquisition and installation is to provide a safe, durable and inclusive public play space that supports the health, wellbeing and development of Bermuda’s children.

“The playgrounds and exercise areas will be designed and constructed to withstand Bermuda’s environmental conditions, including salt exposure, high winds and intense sunlight, ensuring long-term safety, resilience and value.

“[Their] design will align with the established style of public playgrounds and exercise areas across the island, promoting visual cohesion and consistency within Bermuda’s public spaces.

“Incorporating accessible and inclusive play elements, the playground will encourage participation by children of all abilities, foster physical activity and social interaction, and contribute to a high quality public realm that serves families and communities now and into the future.”

The RFP documents note that Duck’s Puddle Park has not had a playground on it for several years, with an area on the property’s southern side proposed for the equipment.

Meanwhile, at Shelly Bay it was proposed that wooden exercise equipment located near the parking lot would be replaced.

Documents included with the RFP said that the equipment should not have water or electrical components. It should be easy to repair or to source replacement parts and should be “vandal resistant”.

As part of the RFP process, interested bidders will be required to attend site visits at the various parks, which will be held on February 19.

Final submissions must be delivered to the Ministry of Public Works and Environment by the deadline of 3pm on March 26.

Upgrades to the Shelly Bay Park playground and Dark Bottom Park in St David’s were completed last year as part of a scheme to “enrich recreational spaces for families”.
