The “vision and sacrifice” of the founders of the Progressive Labour Party are to be celebrated at an annual event on Sunday.

Founders Day also includes the Drum Major Awards honouring people in the community whose service and leadership reflect a commitment to fairness, opportunity and social progress.

The programme this year will feature a keynote address by Jason Hayward, the Minister of Economy and Labour.

There will also be tributes to the party’s legacy along with the presentation of the 2026 Drum Major awards.

Dawn Simmons, the PLP chairwoman, said the event connects the party’s history with its continuing mission.

She said: “Founders Day allows us to honour those whose courage and conviction built this movement for fairness and representation.

“The Drum Major Awards celebrate modern examples of that same spirit of service.

“As we gather, we do so with gratitude for our past and determination about the work still ahead for the people of Bermuda.”

Tickets are available at Alaska Hall, the PLP headquarters, on Court Street. General admission is $65 and patron tickets are $120. Members of the public and supporters are invited to attend at 2pm at the CedarBridge Academy Cafeteria
