Darrell lauds cultural apprentices at recognition event
Mentorship, creative expression and Bermudian heritage were spotlighted during a special breakfast last week.
Mentors, community partners and apprentices came together for the Cultural Apprenticeship Programme event on March 28.
The Ministry of Tourism, Transport, Culture and Sport said that the breakfast addressed “the importance of mentorship, knowledge transfer and creative expression in preserving Bermuda’s unique identity for future generations”.
Among the work highlighted was that of Kaleb McKenzie and Keith Caesar, to “preserve and enhance access to Bermuda’s documentary heritage” at the Bermuda Archives, as well as the Gombey Regalia Apprenticeship Programme.
The latter, led by Kelzine Thompson with apprentices Marco Santucci, Katharyn Albouy and Nicole Young, “is helping to sustain the island’s vibrant Gombey traditions through hands-on training in regalia making”.
Owen Darrell, the Minister of Tourism, Transport, Culture and Sport, said: “This programme continues to demonstrate how investing in people and cultural knowledge strengthens our national identity.
“By supporting tradition bearers and apprentices, we are ensuring that Bermuda’s heritage is not only preserved but actively practised, shared and evolved in meaningful ways.”
