Organisers of a celebration centred around the annual Good Friday re-enactment of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ have released their five-day itinerary.

The Walk to Calvary, which takes attendees through St George’s for a recreation of the Passion of Christ, will be at the centre of activities between today and Easter Sunday.

Included in the line-up will be overseas guests Bishop Samuel Green Sr, of the African Methodist Episcopal Church’s First District in the US, and Reverend Tashara S. Void, the editor of the newspaper The AME Recorder.

Those visitors will be welcomed with a reception at Grotto Bay Beach Resort & Spa and a traditional Bermuda kite-making workshop.

Actors tomorrow will pick up their costumes and go through their final rehearsal before moving to Crawl Gospel Hall in Hamilton Parish for a foot-washing ceremony at 4.30pm and a Passover dinner at 6pm.

A ferry service will be available on Good Friday to run from Hamilton to Dockyard and St George’s, the organisers said.

The ferry will leave Hamilton for Dockyard at 8.30am and leave Dockyard for St George’s at 8.55am, the transport ministry said earlier.

The ferry will then leave St George’s at 1.30pm to go to Dockyard and then head back to Hamilton.

Fare will be $10 for a round trip or $5 each way for adults, with seniors and children aged 5 and under travelling free of charge.

The re-enactment will start at 10.30am on Friday after a worship event at Ebenezer Methodist Church on York Street.

The procession will move through Queen Street to Richard Allen AME Church, turn right on Church Folly Lane to the Unfinished Church, move to the Salvation Army on Governor’s Alley and go down Clarence Street to Whitehall Cottage.

It will then move to Somers Garden on Blockade Alley, through the garden onto York Street, to King’s Square for a major scene and ending at Ordnance Island.

Restrooms will be available on the roadside near St George’s Preparatory School as well as the public bathrooms at Somers Garden and King’s Square.

Designated parking will be available at Tiger Bay by Penno’s Wharf, Kindley Field with a shuttle service, Market Wharf on Water Street and the side lot at St George’s Prep.

King’s Square will close at about 7am on Good Friday. Attendees were encouraged not to park near re-enactment scenes during performances.

An interactive video map will be available through the incoming Walk to Calvary Digital Programme.

The re-enactment is expected to end at 12.45pm, after which time there will be food vendors, entertainment and Good Friday traditions, including kite flying.

In the event of poor weather, the pre-worship experience and re-enactment will be moved to St Peter’s Church.

Organisers will hold a baptism at Grotto Bay Beach on Saturday at 8am before offering an historic tour through St George’s at 11am and lunch with the cast.

On Easter Sunday, the Walk to Calvary organisers will have a sunrise service at Ordnance Island, where the scene of Jesus’s resurrection will be re-enacted.

The service and re-enactment will be followed by a codfish breakfast at St Peter’s Hall at 8am and pre-arranged transportation to local brunch services.
