Family dog Valentino found after being missing for days

Home Safe: Valentino the Border Collie mix is found safe and well after going missing for almost nine days

A family dog that was missing for more than a week has been found safe and well.

Valentino, a Border Collie mix, was returned home on Saturday after being found near Prospect Depot.

Anastasia Azzario, Valentino’s owner, said: “He pretty much herded us all into the living room when he got back and started licking us down.

“He was very happy to be home.”

Valentino ran from his home on Parsons Road the Thursday before Good Friday.

His owners searched for days throughout Smith’s, Devonshire and Pembroke, going as far east as Flatts Village.

The family even offered a $1,000 reward for finding him after a week of no progress.

Ms Azzario said she was called to the Prospect Depot in Devonshire yesterday after some workers spotted him and recognised him from the missing dog posters.

She said her boyfriend set up a search party and installed some cameras in the area, but didn’t find anything.

It wasn’t until this morning, she said, that another bystander saw him barking in the same area and alerted the family, who this time managed to catch him.

Now that he’s back home, Ms Azzario said, Valentino is back to his “playful, energetic self”.

She added that a veterinary exam found nothing but some superficial wounds.

Ms Azzario said she was “profoundly moved” by the community response, especially those who helped locate Valentino or offered comfort during his absence.

She said: “From the moment Valentino went missing, the response from neighbours, volunteers and the wider public was immediate and heartfelt.

“People called in sightings, shared information, checked their properties and showed up day after day to help us search.

“We extend our sincere thanks to every single person who supported us, whether by spreading the word, offering encouragement or physically joining the search.”

She added: “We cannot thank Bermuda enough for standing with us. Your kindness brought our family back together.”
