A man was detained by police and taken to hospital after he reportedly rode a motorcycle into Lindo’s supermarket in Warwick.

The Bermuda Police Service said that the incident happened at about 9.35am on Saturday.

A spokesman said: “Officers attended and were informed that the subject, once inside the store, got off the bike and began shouting at customers.

“He reportedly then exited the store and sat on a nearby wall, where he continued shouting before walking away in a westerly direction along Middle Road.”

Officers searched for the man and found him at the junction of Middle Road and Longford Road in Warwick.

They arrested him and took him to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital to be assessed.

“He was subsequently transported to Mid-Atlantic Wellness Institute, where he is currently detained,” the spokesman added.

Zach Moniz, the general manager of Lindo’s, said that members of the public had assisted the man — thought to have been suffering a mental health episode — before police and medical personnel arrived on the scene.

He did not provide further details but thanked everyone who helped.

It is believed no one was physically hurt.
