Green family donate $50,000 to Eliza DoLittle Society
A family have donated $50,000 to a food pantry that was forced to cut its hours because of budget constraints.
The Green family’s donation represents one quarter of The Eliza DoLittle Society’s 2026 fundraising goal of $200,000.
Alexander Green said: “The Eliza DoLittle Society plays an essential role in supporting our community.
“In light of the growing demand, we felt it was important to act and contribute in a meaningful way.
“We are proud to support their important work across Bermuda.”
The charity announced last week that it will reduce pantry visits from once a week to twice a month from May 1 to December 31, 2026.
Its reduction in hours was to reduce costs, restore food levels and secure necessary financial support.
Clare Mello-Robinson, the executive director of The Eliza DoLittle Society, thanked the Green family for their “extraordinarily generous donation”.
She said: “It provides immediate momentum for our fundraising campaign and strengthens our ability to serve families across Bermuda.
“We are deeply grateful for their patronage.”
The Eliza DoLittle Society has operated in Bermuda for more than 20 years and serves 1,555 people. Of those, 96 per cent face unemployment or underemployment, are on a fixed income or struggle with rising costs.
In the past four years, the charity has assisted about 2,433 people, or 875 households, who together made 16,096 annual pantry visits, each receiving a nutritious bag of groceries.
• UPDATE: this article has been updated to reflect that the upcoming change to the charity’s service provision is to reduce pantry visits from once a week to twice a month from May through December this year
