A cancer care charity has opened up registration for its three main autumn fundraisers.

The Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre’s calendar will include the Allshores Breast Cancer Awareness Walk, Movember Bermuda and Axa XL Man on the Run 5K.

Cash raised will go towards local efforts, including prevention, detection, oncology services and social assistance.

Chris Fosker, the chief executive and medical director of the BCHC, said: “Taking part in one of these events is about much more than the day itself.

“When someone registers, fundraises, joins a team or encourages someone else to take part, they are helping us turn awareness into action.

“The money raised here stays here, helping us remove financial barriers to care so people can focus on their health and getting the care and support they need.”

The 30th annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk will take place on October 14 and its sponsor, Allshores, encouraged people to participate individually or in groups.

Meanwhile, Movember Bermuda will encourage men across Bermuda to spark conversations about their health.

The BCHC encouraged participating men to “grow a Mo” (a moustache), host an event or take on their own challenge in November to raise funds towards local men’s health.

Men’s health research and awareness will be assisted with the Axa XL Man on the Run 5K on November 8.

The run, which will start and end at Warwick Academy, is open to runners and walkers of all ages.

A spokeswoman for the BCHC said more than 11,250 patients used its services last year, with 2,589 of them using its Equal Access Fund.

She added that the centre offered $2.245 million in subsidised clinical services to keep patients from facing a co-pay.

The spokeswoman reminded the public that the BCHC offered assistance for anyone with cancer diagnosed, to help them and their families understand their diagnoses and the treatment options available.
