The local branch of an international charity has been given $160,000 after a successful fundraiser.

The Loren at Pink Beach in Smith’s housed nearly 200 guests to honour Habitat for Humanity Bermuda with a cocktail reception and a Spanish-inspired dinner.

Cash was collected through several auctions and a spin-the-wheel game, as well as through corporate sponsorships and ticket sales.

Benjamin Charbonneau, the head of Bermuda for CMC Markets, said his company was “thrilled” to be a platinum sponsor for the event after it donated a Yamaha bike to the silent auction.

He said the funds raised would play a “vital role in improving housing conditions across the island”.

Mr Charbonneau added: “CMC Markets is here for the long term, and Bermuda can expect to see us supporting numerous initiatives as we grow together.

“We are committed to empowering the community by providing Bermudians with access to sophisticated tools and platforms typically reserved for large institutions, and we look forward to being a key part of the community’s journey for years to come.”

The event featured music by Steve Crawford, a Spanish-style guitarist, as well as DJs Chris Sequeros and Korie Minors.

Attendees were later treated to an aerial show by Navigate Drone Light Show and several audiovisual effects by Reality Sound to recreate the feeling of a nightclub in Ibiza.

Sandra Christensen, the executive director for Habitat for Humanity in Bermuda, thanked those who lent their time and effort to make the event a success.
