Police urge safety and responsibility for Hallowe’en

Be responsible: Arthur Glasford, the Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police (File photograph)

Police urged people of all ages to enjoy Hallowe’en activities tomorrow safely and responsibly.

Acting Assistant Commissioner Arthur Glasford said officers will be “maintaining a visible presence” across the island and ready to assist.

Mr Glasford urged drivers to be extra cautious when trick-or-treaters are out, particularly after dark, and for parents and guardians to watch over youngsters.

He explained: “We recommend taking along a flashlight in order that you can see and also be easily seen.

“Young children should always be accompanied by a parent or guardian, older children heading out in groups should be supervised by a trusted adult or responsible older sibling — let’s work together to keep the night fun and incident-free.”

Mr Glasford added that antisocial behaviour, including vandalism, will not be tolerated, and that members of the public should contact police if they notice anything suspicious.

Members of the public can call 911 for emergencies and 211 to report non-emergency incidents.

Mr Glasford concluded: “We appreciate the continued support from our community and wish everyone a safe and enjoyable Hallowe’en.”
