Blue Wahoos edge X-Bats in thriller

Only four official games were recorded in the Bermuda Softball League as rain made the Michael Preece Diamond unplayable.

In the A Division, the game of the week was a thriller as Blue Wahoos overcame the X-Bats 15-13 in extra innings.

Wahoos pulled off the comeback by scoring three runs in the seventh as Sean McNulty hit a two-run homer, then piled on five runs in the eighth as Jeremy Estey supplied his own out-of-the-park shot.

Chris Jackson and Matt Katz were both three for five with a homer. This game probably would have been a victory for X-Bats except for a logistical blunder in the fifth.

A big six-run inning could have been bigger, except a player batted out of turn and was sent back to the bench after reaching second base.

Pat Murphy and Dan Andrade set the table for X-Bats by gathering three hits apiece, with Mike Tre and Robbie Bailey smacking home runs.

MoonGate Brewers overcame The Kings 16-12 with four players getting three hits each. Shawn Furling, Richard Medeiros, Gary Adams, and Greg Bell led the charge for the Brewers, with Adams plating four runs and a home run.

MoonGate moved into a tie for third place while The Kings slip into last place.

Matt Ingleman was 3-3 from the bottom of the order for The Kings, and Richard Campbell had a good game going 2-3 in the loss.

Paraquet Flyers went to the top of the A Division with a 16-9 victory over the Fully Loaded Allstars. The Allstars dropped to second after the loss, but a mins ten-run differential suggests neither of the top two teams are safe.

MoonGate and X-Bats are just one point back with a game in hand and fifth-place Wahoos, who are two points back, lost an extra point when they had a forfeit early in the season.

In the C Division, The Corporation of Hamilton locked up the Five O’s 27-8 in the week’s only blowout.

The game was over in five as COH scored six in the first and ran away with it. Yizharyah Williams was five for five in the lead off spot.

Rodney Trott, Damon Walker, Phillip Ander, and Michael Parson all gave pitcher Herbie Bascome plenty of support.

No one on Five O’s had more than one hit.

In inter-league play, both the women’s clubs had victories over their C Division counterparts, with Western Stars Angels overcoming Mike’s Trucking 17-11 and HardKnockz beating Super Express 15-13 thanks to a ten-run fifth inning.

Debbie Deshields, Shannon Raynor, and Shawnette Perott all had three hits in the win. Mike’s Trucking picked up all their runs late.

Jaylen and Jaryn Martin picked up seven hits. John Outerbridge also contributed at the plate.

Tache King smashed one out of the park for HardKnockz, while Rasheen Durrant and Vanessa Paulos both had three runs batted in.

Sarah Robinson aided the cause by going a perfect two for two.
