Darrika Simons pours in 29 goals as North Village give St George’s harsh baptism

Storm and Lindos Tigers in action on Saturday

North Village Lady Rams had control of the match from start to finish on Tuesday night netball action at Bernard Park, showcasing their experience over a newly formed St George’s Lady Colts team.

Darrika Simons, with 29 goals, and Coriah Simmons (15) demonstrated near flawless shooting, while Victoria Clarke showcased her defensive skills with numerous interceptions in the St George’s attacking third, as the Lady Rams emerged with a 50-14 victory.

The performance was a total team effort, however, with Jada Richards crowned MVP for the Lady Rams for her attacking and defensive dominance throughout the game at centre and goalkeeper.

St George’s Lady Colts showed periods of good play, with the defensive positioning of Tina Wall for some excellent interceptions. MVP for St George's was Dru Bascome.

The second match featured a 36-12 win for Phoenix Heat over Docksiders. In the first quarter, Docksiders were competing toe-to-toe in the midcourt with the 2021-22 champions.

However, the dominance of shooter Danielle Raynor still had Phoenix leading at the end of the quarter. The rest of the game saw Phoenix switch gears with the defensive pair of Chelzea Somner and Kianté Lighbourne denying Docksiders any momentum in their attempts to feed their shooters.

On the contrary, Ayanna Wolfe took control of the attack for Phoenix Heat with swift movements in the midcourt to open the channels to easily feed their shooters. Lightbourne was MVP for Phoenix Heat, while Briar Bransfield took the honours for Docksiders.

On Saturday, the only senior game of the day took place at Bermuda College between two powerhouse teams. Having lost to Phoenix Heat on Monday, Tigers were out for blood. However, Storm’s youth and speed saw them lead the game from start to finish for a deserved 40-33 win.

Tigers at one point were down by 12 but with strategic planning by their coach they were able to bring that deficit down to seven. Storm’s defensive and MVP players of the match, Debré Evans and Inshan-nae Smith, played superbly like a clean-up crew — leaping, swatting and collecting most balls that came their way.

Not to be outdone, Tigers defensive star and MVP Diara Benjamin hustled and defended like a champ.
