Etienne Wolffe has been selected as the first Bermudian National Olympic Committee Assistant at a major international sporting event.

The Bermuda Olympic Association announced that the The University of Ottawa student, basketball player and musician has been selected as the NOC Assistant to Team Bermuda for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France this summer.

Wolffe was among 300,000 applications received for 45,000 volunteer positions at the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

“Because of the sheer volume of applications, when I received the news that I was selected, I was in a state of shock but also filled with deep gratitude for the opportunity to serve in this capacity,” he said in a BOA press release.

“I look forward to contributing to the success of the Olympic Games, witnessing elite athletes performing their crafts and meeting people from different cultures around the globe."

Bermuda Chef de Mission and former Olympic diver Katura Horton-Perinchief is thrilled to have Wolffe, one of four NOC assistants assigned to Team Bermuda by the Paris 2024 Organising Committee, serve in the vital role at the upcoming Paris Games to be held from July 26 to August 11.

“Team Bermuda has never had a Bermudian NOC Assistant at a major festival before, so this is a major coup for us,” she said. “A unique opportunity for a French-speaking Bermudian to be in the throes of the most prolific multi-sports event on the planet.

“The NOC Assistants are very much a part of the team; they spend time in the village and at venues supporting and assisting athletes, officials, guests and support staff wherever they may be required.

“Etienne’s fluency in French, familiarity with France, organisational skills, ability to work under pressure and passion for sport will be an asset to Bermuda’s Olympic team as our athletes shoulder the mammoth task of providing excellent sporting representation for the country in Paris.

“We are grateful to have him on board.”
