Tough lessons for volleyball teams at US Open

Bermuda’s volleyball teams have found the going tough at the US Open in Denver, Colorado.

The women’s team, playing as Devil’s Isle, lost three matches and remain winless in the prestigious annual event after six matches at Denver Convention Centre.

Bermuda’s representatives lost 25-19, 25-9 to Chicago Coast, were beaten 25-20, 25-21 by Shog Dogs and 25-14, 25-13 to Blono Elite on the first day on Sunday. On Monday, the Bermudians suffered a 25-16, 25-18 defeat at the hands of Mission Unblockable, came out second best 25-14, 25-23 to Angry Beavers, and 25-12, 25-14 when facing I AM Volleyball.

Before playing against Scrubs in the City, Sets in the City and Fog Canada on Tuesday night, the men’s team, playing as Ace Boyz, had triumphed once in four outings. The 25-19, 25-14 victory came against AAV on Monday.

Mike Smith’s team had fared better than the girls in picking up sets, winning four in those four encounters.
