History was made at Spanish Point Boat Club when three-times world snooker champion Mark Williams produced the first 147 on local soil during a series of exhibition matches.

The Welshman achieved the historic feat playing against Bermudian Bo Bromby, the brother of four-times Olympic sailor Peter Bromby.

Bromby missed his second shot when attempting to pot a long red and that proved his last time at the table as Williams completed a perfect frame to carve his name in the local snooker history book.

“I was just so caught up in the moment of playing Mark Williams that I didn’t even realise that he was on a 147 until we got to the brown and they gave the score and I added up 22 points that were left on the table,” Bromby told The Royal Gazette.

“I was just watching him hoping that he’d miss a shot so that I could get another shot. I was completely amazed at the game itself. It was historic in so far as no one in Bermuda had ever seen a 147 live.

“I watch Mark on TV quite a lot so to be in the same room with him was awesome and to then get the privilege of playing him was unbelievable. It was awesome just to see him play and then be able to play against him. He is an icon.”

Lightning then struck twice for Williams, commonly referred to as the “Welsh Wizard”, as he recorded another 147 on the way to another convincing victory against Bermuda Snooker Association president Paul Fedden.

The highlight of the evening on Sunday night came when world No 3 Williams faces off against world- renowned coach and former senior world champion Lee Walker in an exhibition match that lived up to expectations.

“A true highlight for fans as the event provided a rare opportunity to witness snooker greatness up close,” Fedden said.

“Attendees enjoyed a meet-and-greet, personalised memorabilia, and even the chance to play a live frame with Williams – an unforgettable experience.

“The Bermuda Snooker Association extends its sincere thanks to all players, the Spanish Point Boat Club, our supporters and our major sponsors Island Construction Services and Bermuda Tourism Authority, who made the event a resounding success.

“With such a strong international turnout and local enthusiasm, the future of snooker in Bermuda shines brighter than ever.”

The International Snooker League Tournament featured more than 50 players from around the world who indulged in a spirited celebration of competition and camaraderie.

Among the dignitaries in attendance were the Governor, Andrew Murdoch, Minister of Tourism, Transport, Culture & Sport Owen Darrell and Deputy Premier and snooker enthusiast Zane DeSilva.

“I thought it was absolutely fantastic for Bermuda first of all to play host to this tournament and to have a three-times world champion here to participate was phenomenal,” DeSilva said.

“He had two perfect games which is almost unheard of in the space of two hours. Just really, really good stuff for Bermuda and will put Bermuda on the map.

“My hat certainly goes off to the organisers Paul and his wife Victoria Fedden, my sister Penny DeSilva and Steven Bremar along with a host of others too many to mention.”

The tournament also produced standout performances across multiple events with Bermuda’s Tyler Moniz and Bremar securing Mike Mitchell Cup and Kenny Shea Scratch honours.

Christian Youngers, of Seattle, claimed the singles title while Irishman Philip Grant and Canadian Nick Macos reigned supreme in the doubles competition.

There was double cause for celebration for Grant who teamed up with compatriots Paul Sammin and Donal Boylan to win team honours.
