Bowlers target CAC Games qualification
Bermuda men's tenpin bowlers head to Dominican Republic on a mission to secure qualification for the Central American and Caribbean Games for the third consecutive time.
David Maycock, Damien Matthews, Michael Honore, Blake Raynor, Jamel Bean and Dayvon Tucker leave today. They will be in action from Monday up to Saturday, with the ultimate goal being to secure a spot at the CAC Games in Dominican Republic next year.
Bermuda will be competing in singles, doubles, trios and team events, with each discipline featuring six qualifying games to determine the medal-winners. In 2018, the island’s bowlers clinched silver in trios in Colombia.
In 2023, the team never made it to El Salvador, as the players got stuck at Newark Liberty International Airport, in New Jersey because of bad weather.
Maycock, the most experienced member of the side, having been part of the team that won the medal in 2018, is determined to succeed.
“We have been training hard preparing for this trip to come back with a medal,” the 41-year-old said.
“It’s going to come down to a team effort. All the scores add up and at the end that will determine our qualification for the CAC Games.
“I just want to go out there and bowl. I have to make good shots, make the ball do the talking. We trained hard for this, so at the end of the day, we have to put our heads together and focus on the task at hand.
“We know there’s going to be a lot of competition. Our opponents are going to bring their ‘A’ game. We have to also make sure that we’re at our best.
“We shouldn’t be worrying about what everybody else is doing; we should be worrying about what we’re doing on the lanes.”
