Half-Marathon Derby champions Sean Trott and Gayle Lindsay are among the star names competing for Bermuda in the Island Games this year.

Trott, who won the race for the first time after nearly two decades of trying, and three-times winner Lindsay, will form part of a huge contingent heading to the Games, which take place in the remote Scottish Island of Orkney from July 12 to 18.

The island will have representatives in seven sports in Orkney, with Trott and Lindsay, who is originally from Scotland, joined by Philip Woollins and Jake Brislane in a four-strong athletics team.

The golf and badminton competitions will each feature eight Bermuda players, with bowls sending six players, squash consisting of a three-strong team and Megan Berry the sole triathlete on show.

Jarryd Dillas, Jamie MacMillan, Damian Palanyandi and Eric West will likely encounter blustery conditions when they compete at Stromness Golf Club alongside Bermuda’s female players Tracy Burgess, Katrin Burnie, Morgan Lightbourne and teenager Sienna Mosquera. Ebonie Cox, who won gold in Guernsey in 2023, is not back to defend her title.

Aaron Simmons, who recently outlined his dream of becoming a badminton professional in a frank interview with The Royal Gazette, will be one to watch on the court. Simmons heads the team of Danial Hughes, Rishi Gadiwale, Jin Sun, Desi Darrell, Emma Moran-Lee, See Ju Chan and Somers Stevenson at the Pickaquoy Centre.

That venue will also host the squash competition, with professional player Taylor Carrick competing alongside Neil Pohman and Brian Darling.

David Leach, Braden Rustand, Dave Barton, Tamara Leach, Jinhwa Rustand and Jude Barton will head to Kirkwall Bowling Club for the lawn bowls tournament.

There will also be two football teams on show with the Bermuda Football Association committed to sending a men’s and women’s team, with the women playing to defend their title after winning the competition in Guernsey two years ago.

The make-up of the two squads will be announced at a later date.
