Dimitri Gontcharov crowned Bermuda chess champion
Dimitri Gontcharov has been crowned Bermuda chess champion.
After nearly two months of weekly matches at the Bermuda National Library featuring the island’s best players, it was Gontcharov who came out on top, with Moses Mufandaedza finishing runner-up and Don Dacres ending the tournament in third.
The Bermuda Chess Association was thrilled with the level of participation, which included the presence of Charles Clarke, the Director of the Department of Financial Assistance.
“The tournament was distinguished by the presence of Charles Clarke from the Bermuda Government, a longtime supporter of chess on the island,” read a statement from the Bermuda Chess Association.
“Mr Clarke graciously attended the event and had the honour of presenting the awards to the top players. His continued support has played a significant role in the growth and visibility of chess within the Bermuda community.
The Bermuda Chess Association extends its gratitude to all participants, supporters, and the local community for contributing to the success of this year's championship. The association encourages all interested players to join future tournaments and continue fostering the spirit of chess on the island.
