Men’s beach volleyball team heads to El Salvador
Kyle Hamilton and Sean Tucker have been chosen to represent Bermuda at the North America, Central America and Caribbean Beach Volleyball Tour in El Salvador.
In announcing the duo as the island’s representative in San Salvador from Friday to Sunday, the Bermuda Volleyball Association said this will mark only the second time that Hamilton and Tucker have competed together internationally, with the first being in Costa Rica last year.
“Their partnership this season brings a fresh dynamic and continues to spotlight Bermuda’s beach volleyball programme,” the BVA said.
Costa Rica, Canada, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, United States and Venezuela are the other countries competing this weekend.
The Bermuda men’s has competed in several events this year but this is only the second on the Norceca Beach Tour.
Meagan McPeek, the team’s assistant coach, expressed her eagerness to witness Hamilton and Tucker’s combination.
“It will be exciting to see these athletes, who have pushed each other in training for years, as team-mates,” she said.
“Kyle Hamilton has continued to develop an impressive vertical as a blocker, and although only 24 years old, Sean Tucker is a smart, seasoned defender.
“They both have several international competitions under their belt and are excited to test themselves against these strong international teams.
“This is an important step for both players and for Bermuda’s national beach programme as it continues to grow. Every competition sharpens our skills and builds momentum for the future of beach volleyball in Bermuda.”
BVA co-president Lisa Leblanc believes that Hamilton and Tucker are equipped for the tournament.
“After a long season of training and perseverance, this men's duo is ready to embrace this next challenge at this Tour Stop.
“I look forward to watching their progress unfold and leveraging their lessons learnt to scaffold accomplishments throughout the tournament.”
