Triangle Challenge receives prestigious award

Happy team: Erin Wright, chief operations officer and acting CEO of BTA; David Thomas, BTA business development director; Samantha Froud, chief administration officer at Chubb and Ali Hochberg, Director of Sustainability, Chubb BTC

The Chubb Bermuda Triangle Challenge has been awarded a Gold certification from the Council for Responsible Sport as a result of its community engagement, social and environmental practices.

The award for the 2025 edition is two levels higher than the Basic Certification awarded for the 2024 event and is reward for the hard work put in by the organising committee.

Erin Wright, acting chief executive officer of Bermuda Tourism Authority, paid tribute to those who had contributed to the successful event.

“The Chubb Bermuda Triangle Challenge has always been a fantastic example of sports tourism, bringing teams and groups to the island and boosting our tourism numbers during what would typically be a quieter time of year,” Wright said.

“We're incredibly proud of the race organisers and our fellow sponsors for their hard work. Achieving this Gold Certification is a testament to their efforts to make this event not only a great competition but also one that is socially and environmentally responsible, minimising its impact on our beautiful island.”

Samantha Froud, chief administration officer, Bermuda Operations at Chubb, is delighted that her company is the main sponsor of an event striving to become more sustainable.

“At Chubb, we are proud to support the Bermuda Triangle Challenge in its journey towards greater sustainability and community impact,” Froud said.

“Achieving Gold Certification from the Council for Responsible Sport reflects the dedication of everyone involved — from organisers to sponsors — in creating an event that not only celebrates athletic excellence but also prioritises environmental stewardship and social responsibility.”

Ali Hochberg, director of sustainability and an executive committee member at the Triangle Challenge was pleased with the year-on-year improvement.

“The Chubb Bermuda Triangle Challenge has set a new standard for responsible sport, proving that sustainability can thrive even in unique island environments,” she said.

“Their Gold Certification showcases not just operational excellence but a deep commitment to Bermuda’s people and resources — an inspiring example for events worldwide.

“Gold Certification means the 2025 Chubb BTC earned 75 per cent of possible points under the Responsible Sport Standards. “It’s a notable leap from Basic Certification (45 per cent) in just one year.”

The Chubb BTC Executive Committee noted the achievement was made possible with support from Aspen Bermuda Limited (Official Sustainability Partner), the Bermuda Tourism Authority, Chubb, Butterfield & Vallis, Bermuda Craft Brewing, Goslings, MEF, the Corporation of Hamilton, Recycle Bermuda, and the Butterfield Bermuda Championship.

Christian Dunleavy, Aspen Group president and chief executive of Aspen Bermuda is pleased with the:

“Sports should not only inspire excellence but demonstrate what collaboration, accountability and community engagement can achieve. The Chubb Bermuda Triangle Challenge accomplishes that and much more — growing from its humble beginnings in 1975 to becoming a premier event, attracting both the local and global running community.

“Aspen is proud to be a longtime supporter and we congratulate the executive committee on this well-deserved and significant milestone.”

The 2026 Triangle Challenge will take place from Friday, January 16 to Sunday, January 18. The weekend features the Butterfield Mile and Mascot Race on Friday, the BF&M Argus 5k Run/Walk and 10k Run/Walk on Saturday, and the PwC Bermuda Marathon, Half Marathon and Half Marathon Relay on Sunday.
