Jon Beard appointed chef de mission for CAC Games
Jon Beard has been appointed as Bermuda’s chef de mission for the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games.
The Games, which take place in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, from July 24 to August 8 next year is the third time Beard has been selected for the position by the Bermuda Olympic Association. He also performed the role at the 2018 CAC Games in Colombia and the 2022 CAC Games in El Salvador.
The 2026 edition represents a significant milestone as the CAC Games celebrates its centennial, with the event first held in Mexico City in 1926.
BOA president Peter Dunne said in a statement that he was pleased that Beard had agreed to again take on the job.
“We are delighted to have Jon Beard return as chef de mission for our CAC Games delegation,” Dunne said.
“His experience, leadership, and dedication to our athletes was evident in El Salvador and we have every confidence he will once again lead Team Bermuda with distinction in Santo Domingo.
“His proven track record and understanding of the complexities involved in leading a diverse sport delegation makes him the ideal choice to guide Bermuda's athletes at these Games.”
As chef de Mission, Beard will be responsible for all operational aspects of Team Bermuda’s participation, including logistics, athlete welfare, liaison with the host organising committee and serving as the official representative of Bermuda at the Games.
“It is an honour to once again serve as chef de mission for Team Bermuda,” Beard said.
“The CAC Games provides an important competitive platform for our athletes and I am committed to ensuring they have the support they need to perform at their best while proudly representing Bermuda on the regional stage.”
Bermuda won six medals at the last CAC Games in El Salvador with Dage Minors winning bronze in the 1,500 metres.
Swimmers Emma Harvey and Madelyn Moore both made it on to the podium, with Harvey winning silver in the 50 metres backstroke and bronze in the 50 butterfly and Moore finishing runner-up in the 50 freestyle
Cyclists Conor White and Caitlin Conyers both picked up bronze medals in the time-trial.
